Victoria Chen Style Tai Chi hosted a Qi Gong workshop with Master Chen Zhonghua this last weekend. Sept. 20/21, 2003 Highlights for me.
- a much changed version of zhanzhuang. Difficult to describe but the exercise is no longer 'static' and now involves a constant stretching of the spine (three sections) and arms. Low stance as usual but the concentration is split several ways. Very dynamic feeling to it.
- very detailed look at Hunyuan Qi Gong. Attention paid to points of concentration, weight shifts, visualizations and qi gong theory.
- half of the workshop was aimed at GM Hong Junshengs reelings and form. Again difficult to explain in any meaningful (IHTBS) way if you weren't there but there was a good breakdown of both positive and negative reelings along with theory and plenty of hands on.
- Lots of application theory. Ideas on the meaning of soft and hard and how they relate to the postures and circles. Interesting discussion on hard and soft as it pertains to external and internal also. All backed up by demonstrations.
- Master Chen is not at all shy about having people push on him and invites people to feel how his body is moving as he demonstrates the theory he discusses.
- The last segment of the workshop had participants working on very basic partner ideas as a first step towards push hands and application in GM Hongs way.
- a great demo of Yi Lu by Master Chen. Clean 'dry' power, appropriate relaxation, visible use of kua and triangle. A good enough demo that some of the participants were a bit depressed after (how can I ever get that good)
A great weekend and we're all pumped up for the next workshop on GM Fengs silk reelings. Cheers from Victoria Gord |
